Two New KM Commands for NetApp Filers KM 2.0.00

September 9, 2010
  • Status: Ongoing development
  • Expected release date: July 2010

In order to facilitate the servers management, NetApp Filers KM for PATROL will provide, among many other functionalities, the following two useful features:

Lun's Mapping Table

Over time, as servers connected to a SAN get decommissioned, administrators find an increasing number of unmapped LUNs, or volumes that are no longer used by any server. These LUNs, while unused, still occupy disk space in the filer. Being able to identify such unmapped LUNs and reclaim the disk space uselessly consumed by these LUNs will help administrators avoid unnecessary upgrades and extensions of their filers.

Search WWN

Every component is uniquely identified on the SAN with an obfuscated series of letters and digits called a WWN: LUNs, storage groups, disks, fiber ports, arrays, servers, etc. Retrieving a device corresponding to a WWN found in error log or any other administration GUI is a nightmare for SAN administrators. The Search WNN feature has been design to easily find any component based on its complete or partial World Wild Name.
