The “SharePoint Monitoring” license is a BMC Software MarketZone Direct offering. This means that you can place an order directly from BMC Software under the same conditions as any other BMC product. The BMC Software License Agreement (SLA) will apply to your purchase and support will be provided by BMC Software. The major benefit consists in interacting with only one interface - BMC Software - regarding all your BMC Performance Manager products.
Since the “SharePoint Monitoring” license is offered under the same conditions as any other BMC Software product, you can contact your regular BMC Software retailer to purchase this license and its associated maintenance services. Depending on your purchase conditions with the retailer, the maintenance will be provided by the retailer’s support team or by BMC Software.
Upon request, Sentry Software can provide you with a “SharePoint Monitoring” license quotation. If you purchase our products directly from us, the Sentry Software License Agreement applies to your purchase and support will then be carried out directly by Sentry Software. To get a quotation, please send an E-mail to sales@sentrysoftware.com and describe the environment in which you wish to deploy the product.
For simplification purposes, BMC Software introduced a new licensing structure in 2008. The new licenses are referred to as follows:
The new licenses empower you to use both agent-based and agent-less products for BMC PATROL and BMC Portal.
When looking for information about Sentry Software products from BMC (on www.bmc.com or when asking for a quotation), you will need to refer to the products using their licensing names (as listed above).
Licenses empower you to use Sentry Software products which technical products names stay the same:
Can I get a trial version of your products?
You can download, install and use our hardware monitoring products on test systems for 30 days without purchasing any license. Our products do not require any license key (there is no specific trial version). During the trial period you can ask our support team for technical information or help regarding the installation of the product. At the end of the trial period, you are required to either acquire a license corresponding to the quantity of monitored servers or uninstall the solution. There is no technical mechanism to enforce the end of the trial period but you are bound to the software license agreement terms.
The perpetual license gives you a perpetual right (no time limit) to use the aforementioned products to monitor your servers. The price of the perpetual license is the total number of physical processors (CPUs) of all monitored computers multiplied by the per-CPU license fee mentioned above. The maintenance services include an access to our support, patches, updates and new versions of the product. The maintenance fee is priced at 20% of the license price per year.
What is a Term License (Rental)?
The term license authorizes to use the aforementioned products to monitor your servers for a specified amount of time. At the end of the period, you are required to uninstall the product from your systems. The maintenance services are included in the license fee: thus the warranty and additional maintenance fee do not apply. Please contact us, BMC Software, or your retailer for more information about term licenses.
What is included in the Maintenance Services?
You can purchase our maintenance services in order to have access to our support, patches, updates and new minor and major versions of your licensed products for a limited period (typically 1, 3 or 5 years). To purchase maintenance, please contact BMC Software or your retailer, or contact Sentry Software if you purchased your licenses directly from us.
Do I count cores in "physical CPUs"?
Physical CPUs correspond to one processor package that you purchase from the processor manufacturer. Dual core and quad core processors from Intel and AMD both count as one single physical processor. 24-core SPARC T1, T2 and T2+ processors do also count as one single processor. Our hardware monitoring solutions report the number of physical CPUs and properly differentiate cores from actual processor packages.
