Automatic ErrorCount Reset

Home  Previous  Next

ErrorCount parameters (as in the physical disk and memory classes) keep increasing as new errors are encountered. When no error occurs, the ErrorCount parameter remains at zero. When one error occurs, the ErrorCount parameter is increased to 1 (one), and retains this value until it is acknowledged by an operator. When another error occurs, the ErrorCount parameter is automatically increased to 2 (two), and again, it retains this value until it is acknowledged by an operator.

To reset the ErrorCount parameter of a specific device, an operator must manually activate the Acknowledge ErrorCount Alert and Reset command via the console menu (right-click the device icon> KM Commands > KM Settings > Acknowledge ErrorCount Alert and Reset). This mechanism makes sure that an operator of an administrator is aware of the encountered error.

However, since the manual acknowledgement of each error can rapidly become time consuming, Hardware Sentry KM can be configured to automatically acknowledge an alert on the ErrorCount parameter and reset it to zero after a specified period of time.

To set the automatic ErrorCount parameter reset for a specific device, right-click the Hardware icon > KM Commands > KM Settings > Automatic ErrorCount Reset:

KMCmd_Automatic_ErrorCount_Reset

Select the period of time after which you want the KM to automatically reset the ErrorCount parameter and click OK.

noteIn many cases, a hardware error that do not reoccur after a certain amount of time can be safely ignored. Automatically resetting ErrorCount parameters to zero after a few hours is often considered as a good practice.
