Configure Java Settings

The Java Settings wizard enables you to define which Java instance is to be used by NetApp Filers KM for PATROL. You can either use the automatic detection, select a pre-detected java path or enter manually the path leading to the Java executable directory to be used.

NetApp Filers KM for PATROL leverages Java 1.5 or greater to optimize the performance of its discovery process. You need to install a Java Runtime Environment (JRE) on the same system that runs the PATROL Agent and  NetApp Filers KM for PATROL to benefit from this optimization. Java not installed on the system or if the KM not being able to detect it, does not prevent the KM from performing properly, but may slow down the monitoring of large systems. In any case, the Java Settings wizard lets you define the path of the Java environment to be used by the KM.

To access the Java Settings wizard, right-click the KM icon > KM commands > KM Settings > Java Settings.

Select the Java executable detection method:

•Automatic: if you wish NetApp Filers KM for PATROL to detect the Java executable directory by itself upon each discovery.

•User Selection: if you wish to select a Java executable directory within a list of pre-detected executables.

•Manual: if you wish to manually enter the Java executable directory path.

Click Next to continue.

Automatic Detection

If you have selected the automatic detection at the previous step of the wizard, NetApp Filers KM for PATROL displays the path of the Java executable directory that will be used when performing commands requiring Java features.

Click Finish to save your settings.

User Selection

If you have selected the user selection option at the previous step of the wizard, NetApp Filers KM for PATROL displays a list of all the Java executable directories found on your machine.

Select the Java executable directory you wish NetApp Filers KM for PATROL to use when performing commands requiring Java features and click Finish to save your settings.

Manual

If you have selected the Manual option at the previous step of the wizard, NetApp Filers KM for PATROL let you enter the path to the Java executable directory you wish the application to use when performing commands requiring Java features.

Click Finish to save your settings.

Once you have modified the Java setting, you must restart the PATROL Agent in order to make your changes effective.

Click OK and restart the PATROL Agent.
