Viewing the Overall Activity of a NetApp Filer

Home  Previous  Next

In order to visualize the activity of a NetApp Filer, use the DiskReadByteRate and DiskWriteByteRate as well as the NetworkReceivedByteRate and the NetworkTransmittedByteRate of the SEN_NA_MAIN class. These parameters represent the overall traffic in megabytes per second for each monitored file.

1.In the console, expand the NetApp Filer icon and double-click the DiskReadByteRate and DiskWriteByteRate as well as the NetworkReceivedByteRate and the NetworkTransmittedByteRate parameters.

2.The corresponding graphs are instantly displayed in the graph pane.
You can also compare two parameters in a single graph. For example, double-click the DiskReadByteRate parameter to display its graph, then drag and drop the DiskWriteByteRate parameter in the graph window. Both parameters will be displayed in the same graph.

noteThe network parameters (NetworkReceivedByteRate and NetworkTransmittedByteRate) do not include the fiber traffic.

The overall activity can also be reported in GB per hour or per day (instead of MB/sec) so SAN administrators can visualize how much data has been written to or read off the disk array each hour of the day or each day of the week (see the Reporting the total traffic on an hourly or daily basis section for more information on this subject).
