BMC Atrium Orchestrator Application Adapter for EMC Storage

Release Notes for v1.0.15

Home  Previous  Next

New Features

New operation: The expand-storage-pool operation allows administrators to increase the available size of an existing storage pool.
New operation: The add-port-to-storage-group operation allows administrators to add a target port to a storage group (or masking view).
New operation: The remove-port-from-storage-group operation allows administrators to remove a target port from a storage group (or masking view)
New operation: The refresh-storage-system operation allows administrators to force the SMI-S Provider to take into account recent configuration changes in the storage systems.
This version of the adapter fully supports the provisioning of storage for iSCSI based hosts.

Changes and Improvements

create-storage-pool operation: Additional input options allow administrators to specify RAID level, drive type and number of disks for a new storage pool.
The EMC actor adapter can be uploaded on the BAO grid with an empty configuration. In this case, the connection information needs to be provided at the request level.
get-job operation: Additional job-specific information about the job completion status has been added in the adapter response (for example: ID of the LUN that has been created)
EMC Symmetrix DMX and V-Max are now fully supported

Fixed Issues

More descriptive error message is added in the adapter response, if the adapter request have failed, especially when input parameters are found to be invalid.
The get-storage-pool operation returned information about all the available RAID groups and thin pools even though a specific RAID group or thin pool is requested.
The get-storage-pool operation did not provide RAID level information for thin pools.
The get-lun operation returned information about all the available LUNs present in all the Storage Pools even though a specific storage pool was specified in the Adapter request.
The Adapter response for the add lun-to-storage-group operation did not contain the Storage group name element.
The Adapter response for the remove-lun-from-storage-group operation did not contain the Storage group name element.
The get-storage-group operation returned information about all the available Storage groups present, even though a specific WWN or LUN was specified in the Adapter request.
The get-storage-pool operation reported RAID Level 3 pools as RAID Level 5.

Known Issue

Limitations in the expand-lun operation

Due to various issues and limitations in the EMC SMI-S Provider and the EMC Clariion and Symmetrix firmware, the expand-lun operation may not work in specific cases as described below.

Case

expand-lun Operation Behavior

Expanding a traditional LUN on Clariion

Fully supported (both stripe and concatenate)

Expanding a thin LUN on Clariion

Not supported

Expanding a regular device on Symmetrix

Fully supported with EMC Solution Enabler v7.3.04.  (both stripe and concatenate)

Expanding a thin device on Symmetrix

Not supported

Limitations in the create-storage-pool operation

Due to an acknowledged issue with the EMC SMI-S Provider on Symmetrix storage systems, the create-storage-pool operation may fail to take into account the user-defined disk type (SSD, FC or SATA).
