BMC Performance Manager Express for NetApp Filers

Release Notes for v4.1.04

Home  Previous  Next

What's New

BMC Performance Manager Express for NetApp Filers now supports:
Data ONTAP API v.8.3.x (cluster-mode).
FC and parallel SCSI host adapters.
quotas.

New Parameters

The inUse parameter was added to the Host Adapter application class to indicate whether the adapter is in use or not.
The following parameters were added to the Ethernet Port application class:
Type to indicate the Ethernet port type.
Bandwidth Utilization to indicate the percentage used of the available bandwidth.
Inbound Bandwidth Utilization to indicate the percentage of inbound bandwidth used on the Ethernet port (received bytes).
Link Status to indicate whether the link is up or down.
Link Speed to indicate the actual speed of the Ethernet port.
Outbound Bandwidth Utilization to indicate the percentage of outbound bandwidth used on the Ethernet port (sent bytes).
Duplex Mode to indicate whether the port is configured to operate in half-duplex or full-duplex mode.
The following parameters were added to the Vserver application class:
Operation Rate to indicate the total number of operations per second.
Read Operation Rate to indicate the number of read operations per second.
Write Operation Rate to indicate the number of write operations per second.
Read Byte Rate to indicate the bytes read per second by the Vserver.
Read Bytes to indicate the bytes read by the Vserver.
Transfer Byte Rate to indicate the total bytes read and written per second by the Vserver.
Transfer Bytes to indicate the bytes read and written to the Vserver since the last collect.
Write Byte Rate to indicate the bytes written per second by the Vserver.
Write Bytes to indicate the bytes written by the Vserver.

Changes and Improvements

The computation method used to calculate the volumes capacity metrics has been standardized for both 7-mode and cluster-mode. It now includes the total data space and the snapshot reserve. The parameters of the Volume application class impacted by this improvement are:
Capacity: it exposes the total data space and the snapshot reserve
Available Capacity Percentage: it exposes the available data space
Consumed Capacity: it exposes the data used space and the snapshot reserve
Consumed Capacity Percentage: it exposes the consumed space compared to the capacity.
The Used parameter was removed from the Host Adapter application class.
To provide more meaningful information, the instance name has been improved for the vFiler application class.
To provide better hardware detection in multiple-channel scenario, hardware instance names and IDs have been modified for power supplies, fans, voltages, and temperatures.

Fixed Issues

In cluster mode, BMC Performance Manager Express for NetApp Filers failed to retrieve the SnapMirror status.
Warnings are no longer triggered for zeroed disks.
Negative values were sometimes reported in cluster mode for the parameters Sent Packet Rate, Sent Error Rate, Received Packet Rate, Transfer Packet Rate, Received Error Rate, Transfer Error Rate, Read Byte Rate, Read Bytes, Write Byte Rate, Write Bytes, Transfer Byte Rate, Transfer Bytes and Received Packet Dropped Rate of the Ethernet Port application class.
An alarm is now triggered on the Present parameter of the Disk application class when the Data ONTAP API does not see the disks anymore.
An exception could occur:
when the parent instance was not available.
when collecting disk information which caused the whole collect to fail.
when collecting information about FC ports operating in 7-mode.
when discovering quota in 7-mode.
in cluster mode when discovering disks.
in cluster mode when discovering disk instances and no shelf information was available.
in cluster mode when discovering volumes which caused the collect to stop.
when the value for an aggregate was null.

Known Issues

Since the license-list-info API is no longer supported in Data ONTAP 8.2, inactive licenses cannot be determined in 7-mode.
Java 1.8 uses TSL instead of SSLv3 which prevents the monitoring solution to connect to Data ONTAP. To use BMC Performance Manager Express for NetApp Filers with Java 1.8, you will have to first enable TLS. For more information, please refer to the NetApp documentation.
