Hardware Network Interface

PATROL Class: MS_HW_NETWORK - Monitor Type: MONITOR - Monitor Category: System
No CDM Class defined.

Monitors a specific network adapter in the server and verifies if it is present and operating in optimal communication performance.

Attributes (Parameters)

Name PATROL Name Units Default Thresholds Description
Bandwidth Utilization BandwidthUtilization % None

Percentage used of the available bandwidth. This parameter is collected only if LinkSpeed, DuplexMode, ReceivedBytesRate and TransmittedBytesRate are all properly collected.

Value set by networkColl.

Type: Statistics - Spikes expected

Duplex Mode DuplexMode 0 = Half-duplex
1 = Full duplex
None

Whether the port is configured to operate in half-duplex or full-duplex mode. By default, the DuplexMode parameter triggers a warning when an adapter that was running in full-duplex suddenly starts communicating in half-duplex.

Value set by networkColl.

Note: Alert thresholds are set automatically by Hardware Sentry which should not be customized or modified.

Type: Availability

Error Percent ErrorPercent %

 WARN
if ∈ [10 %, 30 %]

 ALARM
if ≥ 30 %

Percentage of sent and received packets that were in error (due to low-level protocol error or physical media problems). A high percentage of errors often means that the network link is improperly configured or that the network card is behaving badly and thus needs to be replaced.

Value set by networkColl.

Note: Values above 100% collected by the parameter are not reported. The highest value for this parameter is set to 100% to avoid unnecessary alerts.

Type: Statistics

Link Speed LinkSpeed Mbits/s None

Speed that the network adapter and its remote counterpart currently use to communicate with each other. By default, the LinkSpeed parameter triggers a warning when the adapter slows down, i.e. re-negotiates the link speed with its remote counterpart, and is forced to downgrade to a slower communication rate.

Value set by networkColl.

Note: Alert thresholds are set automatically by Hardware Sentry which should not be customized or modified.

Type: Statistics

Link Status LinkStatus 0 = Plugged
1 = Unplugged
None

Current status of the network interface to the network (i.e. whether or nor plugged-in). By default, Hardware Sentry will trigger a warning if a network interface previously connected to the network is now unplugged. However, it will not trigger an alert for network interfaces that were never connected.

Value set by networkColl.

Note: Alert thresholds are set automatically by Hardware Sentry which should not be customized or modified.

Type: Availability

Present Present 0 = Missing
1 = Present

 ALARM
if = 0 (Missing)

Availability of the network adapter.

Value set by networkColl.

Type: Availability

Received Bytes Rate ReceivedBytesRate MB/s None

Received network traffic in megabytes per second.

Value set by networkColl.

Type: Statistics - Spikes expected - Default graph

Received Packets Rate ReceivedPacketsRate packets/s None

Received network traffic in packets per second.

Value set by networkColl.

Type: Statistics - Spikes expected

Status Status 0 = OK
1 = Degraded
2 = Failed

 WARN
if = 1 (Degraded)

 ALARM
if = 2 (Failed)

Current status of the network interface.

Value set by networkColl.

Type: Availability

Status Information StatusInformation None None

Additional (textual) information about the current status of the network adapter.

Value set by networkColl.

Type: Text

Transmitted Bytes Rate TransmittedBytesRate MB/s None

Emitted network traffic in megabytes per second.

Value set by networkColl.

Type: Statistics - Spikes expected - Default graph

Transmitted Packets Rate TransmittedPacketsRate packets/s None

Emitted network traffic in packets per second.

Value set by networkColl.

Type: Statistics - Spikes expected

Zero Buffer Credit Percent ZeroBufferCreditPercent % None

Percentage of zero buffer credits that occurred over the last polling interval.

Value set by networkColl.

Type: Statistics - Spikes expected
