P1512: Improving VMWare ESX Memory Module MonitoringJanuary 9, 2014
Connectors for servers running ESX.
Should you install this patch?
Install this patch if you are monitoring an ESX server.
What does it fix?
The "Memory - General" instance is designed to activate if individual memory modules are not found. However if the discovery query of individual memory modules fails, it can be activated at one discovery, then go "missing" at the next. This patch modifies the connector so that it also checks that individual memory modules were not discovered in the previous discovery before enabling the global parameter, thus greatly reducing the chance of false-positive missing events on the memory - global parameter.
The identifiers for individual memory modules for some servers were not consistent. The identifier used for size and location was not always the same as the identifier for memory module status. It results in an incorrect number of modules being monitored and events being generated on the wrong module. The connector has thus been modified to only use the memory module sensor's identifiers and location (size is no longer available).
How to install the patch?
- Copy the following files to the $PATROL_HOME/lib/MS_HW_hdf directory on the server where the PATROL Agent runs:
- Re-initialize Hardware Sentry for the patch to take effect.
- This connector should be used in conjunction with the SMI-S Compliant RAID Controller - Linux connector.
- Nothing needs to be installed on Console systems.
